Cuba offers a totally unique Caribbean experience. You will naturally find all the usual delights of sun, sea and sand, as well as spectacular scenery and glorious flora and fauna, but there is so much more to discover on this very special island. There is something here for everyone. For birding enthusiasts, Cuba has a diverse list of endemic species and some of the most unusual birds in the Caribbean, such as the tiny bee hummingbird, the smallest bird in the world. For divers, there are fantastic coral reefs and for the more adventurous travellers there are mountains and countryside, where time has literally stood still, to explore. There are many historical sites and finely preserved colonial towns to visit and then there is the vibrant culture and amazing art and of course the very soul of Cuba is in it’s music and dance.
Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and is situated 90 miles south of the Florida Keys, but is a world away from its American neighbour. Its extraordinary history from ancient cultures, through Spanish Colonial rule and the slave trade, to Batista’s dictatorship and Castro’s communism, have given it an Afro-Latin culture and self-sufficiency found nowhere else on earth. Changes cannot be far away and if you enjoy destinations that are not overdeveloped and have a unique individuality – now is the time to go!
There is some fine accommodation to choose from in Cuba, all of which is state-owned but often foreign managed. As on all our other Caribbean destinations, we will always recommend character properties or those in special locations. Particularly in Havana, there are several wonderful historic colonial buildings, that are now hotels. On some of the keys, or cayos as they are known in Cuba, there are large all-inclusive resorts. Most holiday-makers visiting Cuba, are on resort package holidays and very rarely venture away from those areas. We will try and show you the real Cuba and will avoid the most commercialised locations. As there is such a wide selection of places to stay in Cuba, we have grouped the accommodation according to region.
There is so much to see and experience in Cuba that it would be impossible to do it all on one visit. We have suggested three different itineraries to suit individual tastes, but there are numerous other options available and as all our trips are tailor-made, we can design an itinerary that will exactly suit your requirements.
