Bird Watching      << previous page
We offer tailor made holidays for individuals, couples and groups of friends to the locations in the Caribbean that are best suited for birdwatching. We never forget that this is your holiday and ensure that the accommodation, food, guides, transport and suggested itineraries are the best available. All the hotels and lodges we recommend for birding holidays are in the best locations for wildlife and combine the highest standards with character and good service. You will also find our prices considerably better value than most and this is because we deal directly with our local suppliers and use local guides, who are of course the most experienced and knowledgeable of the area.

Trinidad & Tobago is the perfect destination for a birdwatching holiday and provide the ideal introduction to South American birding. These are the most southerly islands in the Caribbean and lie just 7 miles off the coast of South America, which helps to explain the extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna to be found here. Over 450 different species of birds have been recorded, making it one of the richest birding countries per square mile in the world and can offer experiences only rivalled by mainland South America, but in a far more accessible and compact form.

Jamaica is also an excellent birding destination, with approximately 250 species, although many are migratory or come to the island only to breed. It does, however, have 26 indigenous species and 21 varieties found nowhere else in the world, which represents a greater level of endemism than in any other Caribbean island.

Dominica has just two endemics, the endangered Sisserou and Red-necked Parrots, but is the most wonderful natural enviroment to observe the 172 species of birds that have been recorded here. Grenada's only endemic is the Grenada Dove, but it is also blessed with abundant bird life and is a lovely relaxing holiday island.

Please look at the individual pages for these destinations to find out more about the birdwatching itineraries that are available.

Also on the 'Comments' page, you can read a Bird Report from Trinidad & Tobago written by guests of MotMot Travel who travelled in January 2007.
