Many thanks for arranging an absolutely fantastic and memorable holiday we throughly enjoyed it. Our transfers ran very smoothly which really makes a difference at the end of a long flight!
Our first 8 days at Asa Wright were very special. We had already booked our day trips through Mot Mot and the receptionist at Asa Wright arranged it so that we would do 1 trip every other day leaving us time to explore the trails in between. The guides at Asa Wright were very friendly and helpful and of course incrediably knowlegable on all the birds, insects, snakes and plants on the island. The famous "veranda" was superb for bird watching but we preferred exploring the estate on our own and didn't run out of things to see and do the whole week we were there. In fact we were still spotting new species right up to the morning of departure. The food was great - the mix of local foods and more western dishes was just right. We never went hungry! We visited Nariva and Caroni swamps which were great but by far the highlight of the whole holiday was the trip to Tamana bat caves. We were absolutely awe struck it is truely one of the most magnificant spectacles we have ever seen! Our last 6 nights were spent at Mt Plaisir in Grande Riviere. The location right on the beach is stunning. On our first night there we went out with a guide to see the nesting leatherback turtles. The guide was very knowledeable and we spent about 2.5 hours on the beach with the turtles which was really good value for money. We couldn't get over the number of turtles coming up onto the beach. There were over 20 on the small patch where we were stood and we were told that it was the peak of breeding season and that they were seeing 500 turtles a night. We got up early the next day to take photos of the last few remaining turtles on the beach. We booked a trip with the local guide Nicholas to see the Piping Guan. As well as seeing the guan we saw so many other species of birds. Nicholas was a terrific guide and told us a lot about the local area and picked some of the native fruits for us to try. We enjoyed the trip so much that we did it again later in the week. We also arranged a fishing trip through Nicholas. 2 local fishermen took us out hand-lining for 5 hours. We travelled right down the coast and they pointed out some of the land marks that you would never see from the land. We caught over 30 fish and took some back to the hotel and had them baked for dinner. The rest of the week was spent exploring Grande Riviere - Nicholas had kindly recomended some routes for us to walk. The local people were very friendly and although they offered us tours e.t.c we never felt pressurised or harrassed in any way. Overall we had a truely fantastic holiday and we would definitely recommend both Trinidad and Mot Mot travel to our friends. Melissa Matthews, Southampton 3-17 May 2011 |
