Day 1 Fly to Grenada and transfer to your chosen hotel for 7 nights. Day 2 Free day to relax, unwind on the beach or by the pool and to explore the beautiful gardens and surroundings. Day 3 Visit the picturesque port and capital of St. George's, taking our guided tour to learn its secrets. This tour will tell you about the Georgian Architecture, the US led 1983 intervention and more! After some free time to brouse the side streets, cobbled walkways and shops, lunch at the 'Nutmeg', one of the oldest waterfront hotels in Grenada. After lunch there will be a chance to visit the Grenada National Museum, which is housed in old French barracks before continuing on for a wonderful afternoon of exploring private gardens in the St. George's region. The first visit will be to Sunnyside, a mature garden and one of the island's finest treasures. Established by the Renwick family, this historical residence was built in the 1920's and influenced by the French and British, and is commonly referred to as a classic colonial garden. One-hundred year old mahogany trees provide canopies of shade while Scorpion Orchids, the Upside Down Tree, the Sealing Wax Palm, the Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow and of course the more familiar bougainvilleas, and the superb hibiscus collection. Sunnyside hostess, Jean Renwick, is a storyteller weaving historical, biographical and anecdotal comments on the many plants and their characteristics. The garden is never finished as spices, flowers, and features; like the irresistible Koi Carp pond, and the extensive line of fruit trees will always be introduced to new specimens and old favourites alike. A short distance away, the tour continues at Joydon another private residence garden in the Renwick family. This garden is smaller, but the colour and arrangements of the exotic flowers, the extensive tree plantings and the views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean seas has a huge impact on visitors. Hostess Joyce Renwick is bubbly and enthusiastic, offering fresh juice drinks made from garden produce. Finally, you will have the opportunity to visit Hyde Park Garden and to experience another Grenadian welcome with a visit to one of Grenada's finest gardens as well as to enjoy the hospitality of John and Fay Miller at their home. This garden is open to the public by appointment only, and though small, has a good variety of plants and fabulous views of St George's harbour and the setting sun. Refreshments will be served. Day 4 A free day to relax, visit the beach or to do an optional excursion, perhaps a tour of some of the natural wonders of the island, or to go whale and dolphin watching. Day 5 A full day tour, which begins with visits to Grenada's premier commercial nurseries that provide many of the plants and flowers used annually in Grenada's gold medal winning floral exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show. See Enthusiasm, Orchids and many more tropical plants at the gardens of The St. Rose Nursery, Bon Accord Estate and Balthazar Estate. At around midday you will travel on from the Balthazar Estate to Northeast Grenada. Here, you will visit the River Antoine Rum Distillery, dating from the 18th century and one of the last enterprises still powered by a water wheel. There will then be a chance to relax and enjoy a late lunch at Helvellyn House in the northern part of Grenada. This beautiful home overlooks Levera Beach, one of the primary giant Leatherback turtle nesting grounds on Grenada. After lunch, there will be the opportunity for a tour of the home's gardens. In the afternoon you will visit the remote eco-lodge, Almost Paradise, for a view of Carriacou and the Grenadines as well as some afternoon tea. The return journey to St. George's will be via St. James. Day 6 Today you have the choice of either a day visiting more private and public gardens, or a day of special culinary interest. Option 1 - The day will be spent visiting a variety of gardens including perhaps the private gardens of Dodie Helgeson and Sonia Beatson, both in the Westerhall area, Bay Gardens and Tower House, where there will also be the chance to see something of the interior of this beautiful home. The day will include lunch at Petit Bacaye Cottage Hotel and there will be the opportunity to meet with members of Grenada's award-winning Chelsea Flower Show design team, that has won gold for Grenada for the past 5 years. This will be followed by an interactive cooking demonstration with a foremost local chef in his restaurant, where you will taught hoe to cook a local dish using the produce and spices purchased in the market. This will be followed by a lunch prepared by our chef. Day 7 A half-day trip up the scenic west coast to the fishing town of Gouyave, with a visit to a waterfall and spice plantations en route. You will also visit the Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station and on the return journey there will be a stop at the lush Grand Etang Forest Reserve, Crater Lake and Nature Centre at 1900 feet above sea level.
