Having just returned from Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana we would like to say that we had a really marvellous holiday. The itinerary was well balanced with plenty of trips and relaxation.
I will make a few comments on our experiences but would like to say that these are not complaints- rather comments on how we found everything.
Asa Wright – wonderful viewing balcony, excellent guides, interesting night walks and the stunning roosting of the scarlet ibis and trip to the oilbirds. We thought the food was adequate- if you didn’t arrive in time it was cold- and everybody rushed their meals down rather fast due to the staff wanting to hurry. Some restaurant staff were cheerful and others not.
Georgetown Guyana – We found the hotel charming and the food excellent. The guide who took us round Georgetown was brilliant- delightful man with so much knowledge we could have listened to him all day.
We loved Guyana- the small aircraft ride to the Kaieteur falls and onto Baganara island was just fantastic- we enjoyed every moment.
Baganara – it was hard to find out who to ask for housekeeping, trips out, sporting activities. Very laid back and charming but sometimes hard to sort things out. After a few days we got the hang of it. On the last night the staff put on a special dinner for the three of us on the beach with candles and flowers- very touching.
We found the boat rides to Bartica and Marshall falls excellent. We returned to Georgetown by air rather than overland as per itinerary. We didn’t mind this as we had spent a lot of time in boats already.
Castara Retreat – Well, what can we say- probably the best view in the world and wonderful accommodation. The food in the restaurant was more pricey than town but absolutely excellent. Porridge arranged a trip into Scarborough so we could enjoy the carnival.
Blue Waters – A bit of a disappointment after Castara. Beautiful location but not much ambience. When the tide was high there was virtually no beach.
We were extremely taken by the rather lovely Jason who was a very knowledgeable guide!!!!
We had a lot of drivers- all of whom were good apart from the taxi that took us to Castara, Blue Waters and the airport. He was an extremely erratic driver, called Ferris, or else there was a problem with the suspension. Either way we found these journeys very uncomfortable.
So- there we have it! We fully appreciated that we were in the Caribbean and enjoyed the quirky nature of it all! Thank you for arranging a great holiday- we have already recommended you to others.
